Chicago Architecture Firm Unveils Bridgeport Stadium Concept
Sketches portraying a potential new home for the Chicago Bears via a domed stadium design in the city’s Bridgeport neighborhood have been published in a five-slide presentation by a Chicago architectural firm, stemming from concepts born if the White Sox decided to move from Rate Field to a prospective new venue in the South Loop.
Skidmore, Owings and Merrill published the conceptual designs on Instagram on Wednesday. The firm’s proposal imagines the stadium as the anchor of a larger mixed-use district combining housing, entertainment, hospitality, parks, and public recreation spaces.
Infrastructure and Transit Access Planned for Surrounding Land
To support game-day crowds and daily neighborhood activity, the firm stated that the concept leverages existing transit and parking infrastructure, including access to the CTA, Metra, and the Dan Ryan Expressway.

The architectural team also identified a large expanse of publicly owned land surrounding the proposed site, suggesting the acreage could host market-rate and affordable housing alongside civic amenities and pedestrian bridges.
Bears Leadership Continues Multi-State Venue Discussions
Discussions regarding the team’s long-term venue strategy remain fluid. Back in August, Chicago Bears chief executive officer Kevin Warren noted that team representatives were continuing meetings with Illinois officials, while emphasizing that the focus was on building a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana.

Political Leaders Weigh In on Illinois and Suburban Options
Conversations about the stadium took place over the summer, leading up to a meeting earlier this month between several legislative leaders, Gov. JB Pritzker, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Meanwhile, the Arlington Heights mayor stated that he welcomes progress toward keeping the franchise within Illinois, maintaining that the northwest suburb offers the best opportunity for a new stadium.
Franchises Yet to Comment on Newly Released Renderings
