Strut Your Mutt Raises Over $50,500 for No-Kill Shelters

This year, attendees at Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt raised more than $50,500 for animals at shelters and rescue groups across the country, the organization reported.

Three Decades of Leashes and Fundraising

The annual event allows participants to collect funds for Best Friends or their favorite participating animal welfare organization. Every dollar raised flows toward spay and neuter programs, adoption events, foster programs, veterinary care, and other services that keep shelter animals healthy and ready for new homes.

No-Kill Philosophy Gains Ground

More communities than ever before are embracing the no-kill philosophy. Gatherings like Strut Your Mutt help make that progress possible by connecting adoptable pets with families while building public support for ending the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals.

Adoption on Four Legs

At this year’s event in Salt Lake City, area shelters and rescue groups brought adoptable pets to the gathering. The celebration doubled as a practical adoption opportunity for attendees looking to add a new companion to their household.

“We’ve been coming a long time, but we’ve brought different dogs, at least four or five others,” says attendee Tena Campbell, toting a silver-faced senior dog in a carry bag. “I just like the advocacy for the animals and the no-kill message. Just getting to be with all the other dogs is so much fun.”

Financing the Daily Care

The funds raised at this year’s 30th anniversary event will support the medical and daily care needs of animals in shelters nationwide, directly financing the programs that make no-kill communities sustainable.
