Suspected Drunk Driver Plows Truck Into Concord California Restaurants

A truck driven by a suspected drunk driver crashed through the front glass windows of the Chicken Thyme and Kabob Craze restaurants in Concord, California, on the afternoon of Oct. 25. Despite the vehicle smashing into the dining area around 2 p.m., no one was injured in the incident, according to reports.

Video of the crash shows patrons eating at their tables seconds before the truck entered the store, sending glass and concrete flying. Fraidoon Jamshed, the owner of the restaurants, told KRON4 News that he was behind the counter while seven or eight people were seated in the dining area. Jamshed described the event as a “miracle” that no one was hurt, noting there was “no time to react.”

Driver Arrest and Allegations

Concord police arrested the unidentified driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. Jamshed alleged the driver never hit the brakes and was traveling between “70 to 80 miles an hour.” He further stated that the driver’s foot remained on the gas pedal after the crash, requiring bystanders to open the vehicle and remove the driver’s foot to stop the engine.

Impact on Local Businesses

The crash caused significant structural damage, including a 16-by-16 supporting concrete pillar that holds up the roof. As a result, indoor dining has been shut down for Chicken Thyme, Kabob Craze, and Little Thai House, which shares the seating area. Business owners stated that because the kitchens are located in a different part of the complex, the three eateries remain open for DoorDash delivery and takeout orders.

It remains unclear what specific charges the driver is facing or how long repairs will take before the dining rooms can reopen.
