Tennessee Colleges Scale Nuclear Training to Build Skilled Workforce

Tennessee Board of Regents Expands Nuclear Energy Workforce Programs to Meet Surging Industrial Demand

Tennessee is rapidly scaling up its nuclear energy workforce infrastructure, drawing on a legacy of production that stretches back to the 1940s. With more than 40,000 workers currently employed in the state’s nuclear sector, the Tennessee Board of Regents reported that its college system is positioning itself at the forefront of industrial workforce development to support growing state and national demands.

The state’s community colleges and Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology (TCATs) have secured crucial funding and in-kind support from major industry heavyweights. These key partners include the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and the Y-12 National Security Complex. These collaborative initiatives are specifically engineered to scale quickly alongside expanding industry needs across the entire state.

Specialized Nuclear Degree Pathways Across Tennessee

To supply immediate, qualified talent directly to the nuclear supply chain, community colleges within the system have established focused academic programs. These specialized credentials provide direct-entry routes into high-paying, stable careers:
