The Tip of the Iceberg” – Bob Dylan: Fort Collins, Colorado, May 23rd 1976. | Johnny B

Just a week before the arrival of his massive box set, The Live Recordings 2026, Bob Dylan delivered an unexpected digital pre-release featuring the complete final concert of his 1976 tour, johnnyborgan.blog reported.

The newly available recordings make up discs 38 and 39 of the upcoming collection, capturing the May 23, 1976, performance in Fort Collins, Colorado. This particular evening holds a specific place in the tour’s history. It is not only the final show of the run, but also the exact performance filmed for the Hard Rain television special. Dylan had previously dismissed a first attempt recorded a month earlier at the Bellevue Biltmore Hotel on April 22, finding those earlier cinematic techniques lacking compared to the raw intensity achieved in Colorado.

Fans familiar with the existing Hard Rain live album and TV broadcast will find plenty of overlap alongside notable omissions. The digital release includes five performances shared with the live album and all eleven songs featured in the television special. Among them are sweeping renditions of “Shelter from the Storm” and “Idiot Wind,” the latter stretching near ten minutes in a demanding vocal and emotional display.

Beyond the tracks shared with earlier releases, the complete Fort Collins set opens with strong versions of “Mr. Tambourine Man” and “It Ain’t Me, Babe.” The performance also highlights vigorous collaborations between Dylan, Joan Baez, and the backing band, alongside standout renditions of “Tangled Up In Blue,” “Going, Going, Gone,” and “Isis.”

The full box set arrives on November 6, preceded by digital singles for “I Pity The Poor Immigrant” and “Going, Going, Gone” recorded in Fort Worth.
