Tramell Jones Jr. Earns First Swamp Start Against Oklahoma
Sophomore quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. will lead the Florida Gators onto the field for his first career start at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium this Saturday, according to WRUF 98.1 FM. The Jacksonville native takes over the offense as the No. 24 Gators prepare to host Oklahoma at 7:45 p.m.
This weekend marks the second career start for Jones, who steps into the role after splitting playing time with Aaron Philo during last Saturday’s 27-8 loss to Georgia in Atlanta. Philo started the game before being replaced in the second quarter. Jones finished the afternoon completing 18 of 25 passes for 172 yards and an interception, adding Florida’s lone touchdown on a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner noted earlier this week that the coaching staff has drawn encouragement from Jones’s progression, particularly his composure when plays break down.
I attribute that to a lot of poise and preparation. I thought he did a good job.
Jones made his first collegiate start back on October 17 against then-No. 7 Texas while Philo recovered from a shoulder injury. He guided the Gators to a 27-24 upset victory in Austin, completing 22 of 35 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns alongside 41 rushing yards.

Philo handled the starting duties for Florida’s first six games of the season before missing the trip to Texas. He returned to action against Georgia but threw two interceptions prior to his benching.
Florida enters the matchup with a 5-3 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the SEC, while Oklahoma stands at 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Pregame radio coverage gets underway Saturday at 4:45 p.m. on WRUF 98.1-FM, 850-AM, and 103.7 HD2, followed by the television broadcast at 7:45 p.m. on the SEC Network.
