Travis Kelce Returns to Full Practice Before Chiefs-Broncos Game

Travis Kelce Returns to Full Practice as Chiefs Prep for Broncos Showdown

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been elevated to a full participant on the team’s injury report ahead of Sunday’s divisional matchup against the Denver Broncos. The 37-year-old veteran gave the franchise a scare after exiting a Week 6 game against the Los Angeles Chargers with a right ankle injury. Despite early-week limitations in practice, the Chiefs confirmed on X that he is ready to play in the Rocky Mountains.

The stakes are high as the Chiefs look to rebound from a tough 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, a performance that Kelce didn’t mince words about on his podcast this week. Speaking on “New Heights,” Kelce described the offensive showing as leaving a “nasty taste” in his mouth. The loss marked the first time in quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ 10-year career that Kansas City failed to reach the red zone.

Kelce holds the record for receiving yards by a tight end, including the postseason, with 15,432 yards, alongside 1,104 career receptions that place him fifth all-time. Yet, the tight end dismissed those milestones in the wake of the defeat. “It’s pretty cool stuff to be a part of that. We’ve said it over the past, probably year, I’ve been in just the discussions of being a Top 10 in the receptions and Top Five in terms of yards and stuff like that. But all that (expletive) is hoopla, man. If you’re not winning football games, man, that (expletive) is pointless, man,” Kelce said.

AFC West Standings and the Denver Rematch

Kansas City previously defeated Denver 31-10 in Week 1, a game where the Chiefs defense overwhelmed Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. However, the Broncos have since narrowed the gap in the division. Denver enters this weekend’s matchup sitting just a half-game behind the Chiefs for the outright lead in the AFC West, riding an improved offensive stride and the anticipated return of linebacker Jonathon Cooper to bolster their pass rush.

Kelce acknowledged that the upcoming clash will test an offense trying to find its rhythm. Through six games this season, the 14th-year tight end has recorded 24 catches for 343 yards and two touchdowns, maintaining his consistent production alongside a remarkable career durability that has seen him play at least 15 games every year since 2014.

Adding to the offensive outlook, No. 1 wide receiver Rashee Rice is positioned to return against Denver after missing games since Oct. 4 due to a hamstring injury. With both veteran leadership and key targets rejoining the lineup, Sunday’s 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff on CBS serves as a critical test.
