Two Boys Injured in West Indianapolis Drive-By Shooting

Two boys were shot on the west side of Indianapolis late Saturday night, leaving the community grappling with yet another act of violence involving minors.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) confirmed that officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of North Warman Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. following reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, responding officers discovered two boys suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where they remain in stable condition, according to WRTV.

Initial findings from the IMPD investigation suggest the gunfire originated from a passing vehicle. Capt. Richard Ray stated that investigators have not yet been able to provide a specific description of the vehicle involved in the shooting.

The incident adds to the difficulties facing law enforcement and local residents. Capt. Ray emphasized the limitations of police intervention in isolation, calling for a broader societal effort to address the frequency of such events.

“Indy gun violence is a challenge law enforcement cannot solve alone,” Capt. Richard Ray said. “It’s a burden that a community should not have to carry by itself. Public safety is a shared responsibility.”

The shooting highlights the persistent vulnerability of youth in urban centers. When violence occurs in residential corridors like North Warman Avenue, the impact extends beyond the immediate victims, affecting the perceived safety of the entire neighborhood.

While the investigation into this specific drive-by remains active, the IMPD is urging residents to come forward with any information that might identify the suspects. The department has consistently maintained that community cooperation is the primary mechanism for closing cases of this nature.

Official guidance for reporting criminal activity and accessing community safety resources can be found through the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the Indiana State Police websites. As of early Sunday morning, no arrests have been announced, and the search for the vehicle continues.
