What is the schedule for Hawkeye Dance Day?
The day kicks off bright and early at 8:30 a.m. with check-in, where studios open for individual warm-ups and coffee, tea, and light snacks are provided for both visiting students and their families. At 9:00 a.m., participants meet the faculty before moving into a 15-minute group warm-up.
The academic portion begins at 9:30 a.m. with a contemporary and improvisation class running until 10:50 a.m. Following a quick ten-minute break, a ballet class takes over the studios from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The mandatory and scholarship solo performances run from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., right before a scheduled lunch break.
A question-and-answer session running from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. pairs parents and students directly with current students and faculty members. Visitors can then join an optional informal student gathering hosted by the Undergraduate Dance Organization from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m., followed by an optional tour of the Space Place Theater from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m.
Where can attendees see additional performances?
For visitors staying through the evening, the department has slated an optional Dance Gala performance at Hancher Auditorium for 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the evening gala must be acquired separately through the Hancher Box Office.
