Upcoming Events at The Citadel: November and December 2026

Homecoming Arrives at The Citadel as November and December Schedules Fill Campus

The calendar at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, is filling up rapidly for November and December, highlighted by Homecoming weekend celebrations, historic naval exhibitions, and high-level cybersecurity discussions.

For Charleston and the broader community, these late-autumn months bring a heavy rotation of public lectures, cadet performances, and academic workshops to campus. Alumni return en masse just as specialized researchers unpack complex scientific challenges ranging from antibiotic resistance to maritime history.

Homecoming 2026 and Early November Campus Milestones

The first weekend of November marks one of The Citadel’s biggest events on campus. Homecoming 2026 kicks off on Thursday, Nov. 5, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 8, bringing alumni back to 171 Moultrie St. for reunions across multiple classes, with a special milestone celebration slated for the Class of 1976 as they mark their 50th reunion.

The weekend schedule features a football game against Furman, traditional parades, and a performance by the Summerall Guards. Alongside the alumni festivities, academic events dot the opening week of the month.

On Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in the Class of 1969 Auditorium at Capers Hall, Robert Bonomo, M.D., delivers the William H. Porter ’62 Lecture Series in Chemical Chemistry and Biochemistry. Bonomo, a nationally and internationally recognized expert in infectious diseases, pharmacology, and molecular biology, will address the growing challenge of antibiotic resistance, including multi-drug resistant bacteria in space environments and the path from laboratory discovery to clinical treatment.

Naval History and the American Revolution at 250

As the nation looks toward its 250th birthday, The Citadel is hosting an exhibition and lecture series exploring the roots of American sea power. “America’s First Fleet: The Revolution at Sea,” on loan from the Navy Art Collection of the Naval History and Heritage Command, anchors the programming in the Winifred B. Moore Jr. Art Gallery.

On Monday, Nov. 9, at 5:30 p.m., Roger Bailey, Ph.D., historian and assistant history professor at The Citadel, will deliver a lecture in the Class of 1969 Auditorium exploring the battles and leaders of the early naval forces, followed by a reception in the gallery. A special lecture and exhibit experience titled “The Art of Revolution” is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2, featuring historians David Preston, Ph.D., and Roger Bailey, Ph.D., detailing the naval heroism and heartbreak of the era.

Veterans Day Observances on the USS Yorktown

On Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 12 p.m., The Citadel’s elite silent precision drill platoon, the Summerall Guards, will perform aboard the flight deck of the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum to honor America’s veterans.

The 61-member platoon undergoes rigorous physical training and selection for stamina and drill proficiency. Beginning at 2 p.m. following the exhibition, Patriots Point will present the “Symphony of Service,” a musical tribute commemorating the occasion, organized jointly by the Charleston Men’s Chorus, the Charleston Symphony, and the Friends of Fisher House Charleston.

Mid-November brings a concentration of youth-focused academic programs and public forums. On Saturday, Nov. 14, the South Carolina Junior Academy of Science hosts its Fall Workshop for high school students and teachers. Professor David Edwards, Ph.D., who serves as head of The Citadel’s Department of Mathematics and Data Analytics, begins the day by explaining how artificial intelligence, data, and mathematics drive scientific breakthroughs.

Concurrently, the physics department hosts an Applied Physics and Aerospace Science Experience in Grimsley Hall, allowing students to test airfoils in wind tunnels and build levitation systems. Later that week, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, the BB&T Moral Foundations of Capitalism Speaker Series features Cameron Tilley, Ph.D., of the College of Charleston, discussing the Founders’ views on liberty and government power at Bastin Hall.

The evening of Nov. 17 also features The Citadel Fall Concert at 6 p.m. in the Class of 1969 Auditorium, bringing together the Regimental Band and Pipes, The Citadel Chorale, and The Citadel Pioneers Bluegrass Band for a free public performance.

Holiday Jazz and Cyber Leadership to Close the Year

December brings seasonal music and professional strategy sessions to the campus. Cadets will perform their annual Holiday Jazz Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. in the Class of 1969 Auditorium.

Closing out the major fall schedule, the Holliday Alumni Center hosts the South Carolina Summit on Cyber, AI and Intelligence Leadership on Thursday, Dec. 10, and Friday, Dec. 11. The two-day event brings together leaders from government, the military, industry, and academia to identify gaps in South Carolina’s cyber ecosystem and strengthen state security resilience.
