Wild Beat Mammoth: Boldy and Keller React to Minnesota’s Victory

“I just think we’re playing a pretty good team game,” said Matt Boldy, noting that everyone is contributing and having an impact.

The Minnesota Wild defeated the Utah Mammoth 3-1 on Tuesday night. Kirill Kaprizov recorded an assist and scored his 14th goal of the season, the most in the NHL, to help secure the victory. Wild Scoring and Performance

Minnesota’s offense was led by power-play goals from Joel Eriksson Ek and Kaprizov. Eriksson Ek scored at 15:04 of the first period, using a one-timer from the left face-off circle that hit the right post and went in. He has recorded eight points, including three goals and five assists, in his previous seven games. Kaprizov extended the lead to 2-0 just 48 seconds into the third period, scoring from the right circle off a pass from Boldy. Kaprizov has scored in eight of his last nine games, has multiple points in three straight contests, and is tied with Alexander Ovechkin for the fifth-most goals in NHL history for the month of October.

Maxim Shabanov added a third goal at 11:44 by beating goaltender Karel Vejmelka to the blocker side. Shabanov scored after picking up a loose puck in the slot. Quinn Hughes contributed two assists. In goal, Jesper Wallstedt stopped 26 of 27 shots, though Logan Cooley scored for Utah with 1:21 remaining to end Wallstedt’s shutout bid.

Clayton Keller Blames Lack of Connectivity for Mammoth Struggles

The Mammoth failed to score on any of their four power-play opportunities. Utah captain Clayton Keller attributed the struggle to a lack of connectivity on the ice, stating, “I think we gotta be hungrier in their zone.”

Keller further noted that the team felt “disconnected” at times, which allowed Minnesota to squeeze them off and result in “one and done” plays, making it difficult to create scoring chances. The Mammoth have lost three of their last five games.

Disallowed Goal

At 7:21 of the second period, Ryan Hartman appeared to score a power-play goal to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead. However, video review showed Hartman kicked the puck into the net, and the goal was disallowed.

Upcoming Schedules

The Wild return home to play the New York Islanders on Thursday night. The Mammoth begin a six-game road trip on Thursday with a game in Pittsburgh.

Regarding the team’s lack of cohesion, Keller said, “I think we can be better being more connected, coming up the ice together, and supporting our linemates.”
