4 One Act Plays Coming to Vermont Theatre Company This November

Stage lights will soon power up at the Evening Star Grange in East Dummerston as the Vermont Theatre Company launches its fall season with a slate of four distinct one-act plays.

Running from November 13 through 15, 2026, the showcase features a sliding-scale admission fee ranging from $10 to $20 for tickets purchased online or at the door. Performances are scheduled for 7:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, alongside a 2:00 PM matinee on Sunday.

Founded in 1984, the all-volunteer, nonprofit organization is dedicated to bringing accessible and thought-provoking theatre to the greater Brattleboro community. This year’s fall program serves as a learning opportunity for new and seasoned directors to try new things and stretch themselves with contemporary material.

Professional theatre director and New England Youth Theatre artistic director Ben Stockman is supporting the production. Meanwhile, VTC artistic director Jess Iris is producing, with Evangeline Rera stepping in as stage manager.

Four Unique Visions Take the Stage

The first offering is titled “A Scientific Experience Unlike Any Other,” written and directed by Lucy Johnston. The narrative introduces a corporate entity named DEM-EATER, whose CEO Ken and Wanda the Wandera shrink themselves and the audience directly into the soil beneath the theater. Set against the backdrop of the United States’ 250th anniversary, the play uses fantasy to probe modern economic extraction.

Shifting eras and tones, Miles Ledoux directs “Court of Inquiry,” an adaptation of an early story by Agatha Christie. Set inside a potentially haunted English country house at the tail end of a 1920s New Year’s Eve party, the plot kicks off when a mysterious stranger arrives at midnight. The characters soon investigate the tragic history of the home’s former owner, bringing together classic Christie figures Mr. Quin and Mr. Satterthwaite for their very first meeting.

The programming then turns local and contemporary with “Riddled With You,” written by local journalist Alex Lockie and directed by Laura Lockie. This intergenerational family drama tackles heredity, internet connectivity, and the invisible threads of family dynamics that shape everyday choices.

Xga live theater an experience unlike any other

Rounding out the quartet is Andrew Gerber’s “Platypusary,” directed by Lucy Webb. The play explores the true historical story of the platypuses housed at the Bronx Zoo throughout the 1940s and 1950s, weaving in thematic parallels to The Odyssey and modern-day academia.

Performance details, schedules, and ticket reservations can be found directly through the Vermont Theatre Company.
