The LANDMARK Perpetual Week exhibition opened in Hong Kong on September 11, 2024, at LANDMARK ATRIUM, showcasing luxury timepieces from eight prestigious horology brands. According to Mr. Alexander Li, Chief Retail Officer for Hong Kong & Macau at Hongkong Land Limited, the event is designed to foster community engagement within the industry. The LANDMARK Perpetual Week is not just an exhibition; it serves as a vibrant platform for the LANDMARK Horology Community and Hong Kong’s watch connoisseurs to gather, exchange experiences, and share their knowledge in the intricate world of precision timekeeping, Li stated during the opening celebrations.

Educational Workshops and Industry Insight

Beyond the display of high-complication timepieces, the week focuses on horological education. Through a series of panel talks moderated by horology expert Carson Chan—known as the “WatchProfessor”—attendees can engage with topics such as Watch Collecting Under the Current Landscape, 2024 Watch Market Recap, and The Importance of Third-Party Issued Certifications. These sessions require pre-registration and aim to provide a comprehensive look at the industry’s evolving standards.

The event also hosts exclusive, hands-on experiences. For example, brands like A. Lange & Söhne have invited visitors to meet their master watchmakers to gain insight into the brand’s tradition of movement complexity. These workshops are intended to complement their unique journey in the world of horology, according to event organizers.

While the broader exhibition offers a macro view of the watch market, specific masterclasses provide an intimate look at the mechanics of movement assembly. In a recent collaboration involving Chopard, Sincere Fine Watches, and Deployant, participants were given the rare opportunity to handle the L.U.C Calibre 63.03-C training movement.

The experience, which PEAK Singapore, emphasizes the physical discipline required for professional watchmaking. Participants worked at individual benches equipped with precision tools, learning the delicate art of holding screwdrivers and tweezers. The session highlighted the philosophy of the L.U.C collection, which has been central to Chopard’s in-house manufacturing since the collection launched in 1996 to celebrate the brand’s heritage.

The Evolution of the L.U.C Manufacture

The technical rigor observed during these masterclasses mirrors the history of Chopard’s Fleurier manufacture. Established under the direction of co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, the L.U.C division was founded during a period when the industry was recovering from the Quartz Crisis. Today, the manufacture produces a wide range of movements, from ultra-thin dress watches to complex minute repeaters.

As the exhibition continues through the weekend, collectors are turning their attention to the latest releases showcased at the event, such as the L.U.C XPS Forest Green and the L.U.C Quattro Spirit 25 Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition.
