Lenovo Unveils Expanded ThinkBook and ThinkPad Portfolios

Lenovo unveiled a broad array of new consumer and professional technology at its 2019 Tech Life event, ranging from smart home devices and augmented reality hardware to updated laptop portfolios. The announcements, centered on the theme of Smarter Technology for All, highlight the company’s push into AI-integrated hardware and expanded mobile computing.

Expansion of the ThinkBook and ThinkPad Portfolios

Lenovo’s 2019 refresh focused heavily on the professional workforce, introducing new hardware aimed at small and medium-sized business (SMB) users. The company expanded its ThinkBook portfolio with the launch of the 10th Gen Intel Core-powered ThinkBook 14 and 15, while also updating the rest of the existing ThinkBook portfolio.

Alongside the new ThinkBook models, the company updated its signature ThinkPad line. As reported by Lenovo, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen, joined by the X1 Yoga™ 4th Gen, X390, and T490, received performance upgrades, incorporating 10th Gen Intel® Core™ processors. These machines are engineered for the future workforce, prioritizing mobility and processing efficiency for high-demand business environments. The company’s professional lineup also grew to include the ThinkPad L13 Clamshell and ThinkPad L13 Yoga models.

Smart Home and Augmented Reality Innovations

Beyond traditional laptops, the company showcased a shift toward AI-powered smart home and immersive experiences. The Lenovo Smart Display 7 and two new smart tablets—the Yoga Smart Tab and Lenovo Smart Tab M8 with the Google Assistant—were introduced to transform the Android tablet and smart home experience.

Immersive technology also took center stage with the launch of the Lenovo Mirage AR, which powers the MARVEL Dimension of Heroes experience.

Mainstream Android Tablet and PC Updates

Lenovo also expanded its mainstream Android tablet offerings with the release of the 2nd generation Lenovo Tab M7 and Lenovo Tab M8. These devices are intended for personal entertainment and information sharing, rounding out a consumer lineup that was unveiled in the lead-up to IFA, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics trade shows. Additional hardware introduced in the 2019 cycle includes the IdeaPad S340, IdeaPad S540 (in both Intel and AMD variants), and Chromebook models C340 and S340. The company also showcased the IdeaCentre A540 in AMD and Intel configurations, alongside the L28u Monitor, G34w Gaming Monitor, and Q-series monitors, including the Q27q and Q24i.

AI and Future Sporting Analytics

As reported in a BBC programme presented by Chris Vallance and produced by Tom Quinn, the integration of AI is increasingly being applied to specialized hardware, such as electronic sensors—often referred to as electronic “noses”—designed to analyze complex odours and sniff out information, including diseases.

Strategic Outlook and Upcoming Availability

The 2019 product cycle represents a comprehensive effort to reach consumers across diverse categories, from high-performance business laptops to home-based AR gaming. With the release of these updated models, Lenovo continues to refine its Smarter Technology for All initiative, which emphasizes the role of connected, AI-assisted devices in both professional and personal spheres.
