Bribery has emerged as the strongest impeachment charge against Vice President Sara Duterte, according to an Octa Research survey released on August 3, 2026. Forty-three percent of surveyed Filipinos identified the allegation as the most serious, as the Senate continues hearings on four consolidated impeachment articles.

Octa Research Survey Identifies Bribery as the Leading Charge
The findings demonstrate that citizens do not view all counts with identical concern. Following bribery at 43 percent, misuse of confidential funds ranked as the second most serious allegation at 28 percent. Unexplained wealth and grave threats each captured 10 percent of responses, while the remaining 8 percent of respondents were undecided or unable to say.

Geographic and Demographic Variations Across Regions
While national sentiment clearly favors bribery as the top concern, responses varied across regions and age brackets. The bribery allegation ranked as the leading impeachment charge across every major geographic sector: 47 percent in Metro Manila, 54 percent in the Visayas, 43 percent in Mindanao, and 38 percent in Balance Luzon.
Specific regional pockets recorded even higher concentrations. Bribery drew its highest shares in the Cordillera Administrative Region at 75 percent, Central Visayas at 66 percent, the Negros Island Region at 65 percent, SOCCSKSARGEN at 63 percent, and the Davao Region at 60 percent. Conversely, allegations regarding the misuse of confidential funds emerged as the leading concern in the Ilocos Region at 55 percent, Cagayan Valley at 48 percent, MIMAROPA at 56 percent, and Caraga at 55 percent.
Demographically, bribery spans all adult generations but resonates most heavily among respondents aged 25 to 34 at 52 percent, followed by those aged 35 to 44 at 46 percent. Although younger adults aged 18 to 24 registered the lowest share for bribery at 38 percent, it still stood as their top concern. That same younger cohort also showed heightened sensitivity to financial accountability, with 35 percent identifying confidential fund misuse as a major worry.
Prosecution Perspective and Legal Proceedings in the Senate
Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong, a spokesman for the prosecution team, argued that the survey results prove the electorate is engaging deeply with the constitutional proceedings rather than dismissing them as mere political theater.
