A 34-year-old man was rescued from beneath a Nissan van and rushed to Westmead Hospital fighting for life following an alleged hit-and-run on Ferndale Ave in Carlingford at about 12.30pm on Sunday, according to police and emergency services.
Emergency crews rushed to Sydney’s northwest on Sunday afternoon after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been struck and trapped beneath a vehicle. The incident unfolded on Ferndale Ave at Carlingford, near Edinburgh Ave, according to local reporting.
When first responders arrived at the scene shortly after 12.30pm, they discovered the 34-year-old man pinned beneath a Nissan van. Paramedics treated the critically injured pedestrian at the scene before transferring him directly to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Carlingford Search Leads to Police Arrest
New South Wales Police allege that the driver of the van fled the scene on foot immediately following the collision. Law enforcement personnel quickly established a perimeter, launching a search of nearby bushland to locate the suspect.
Officers successfully tracked down a 29-year-old man in the adjacent bushland. Police allege that the detained individual was the driver operating the van at the time of the crash.
Following his arrest, the 29-year-old man was transported to Castle Hill Police Station. Authorities confirmed that he remains in custody, and no formal charges had been laid as investigators continued their examination.
Ongoing Crime Scene Investigation
A crime scene was promptly established along Ferndale Ave as specialist officers from the crash investigation unit took charge of the inquiry. Investigators are examining physical evidence and gathering witness accounts to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the collision.
