IJM Corporation Bhd’s wholly owned subsidiary, IJM Construction Sdn Bhd, has expanded its advanced industrial portfolio by picking up two major contracts with a combined value of RM909.5 million.

Semiconductor Warehouse and Medical Facility Details

The newly secured agreements cover two distinct industrial projects located in northern Malaysia. The first is a RM455 million contract covering civil, structural, and architectural works for an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) warehouse.

The second agreement is a RM454.5 million project to construct a medical device manufacturing facility for Intuitive Surgical Malaysia Sdn Bhd. The site is situated at Bandar Cassia Technology Park in Batu Kawan, Pulau Pinang. Both developments follow fast-track timelines, with scheduled delivery windows of less than 18 months.

Strategic Expansion Into High-Value Medical Manufacturing

Commenting on the strategic direction of the construction division, IJM Corp group chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Lee Chun Fai detailed the firm’s portfolio growth.

“Sejak beberapa tahun kebelakangan ini, IJM Construction mengukuhkan portfolio dalam sektor pusat data, semikonduktor serta kemudahan pembuatan elektrik dan elektronik.”

Lee noted that the Intuitive project marks a pivotal entry point into the medical device sector, allowing the firm to apply its core engineering and rapid-execution strengths to an adjacent high-value market. The new Penang facility will support the production of surgical instruments and electromechanical devices used in minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery, representing IJM Construction’s second project in medical device manufacturing.

Order Book Strength and Portfolio Shift

The latest awards bolster IJM Construction’s outstanding order book to RM14.51 billion, which encompasses a diverse mix of private and public sector initiatives spanning building construction, advanced industrial facilities, and civil engineering. Within this total, advanced industrial facilities now represent approximately 55% of the firm’s domestic outstanding order book, illustrating a steady structural shift toward technology-driven manufacturing assets.
