AmbioPharm’s $119 million manufacturing expansion in North Augusta cleared a critical regulatory hurdle on Oct. 21, when the city’s planning commission formally approved site plans for a new modular building. The project aims to shore up domestic production capacity for high-demand diabetes and weight-loss peptide therapeutics.
Operations are slated to come online by the end of next year, a timeline that will bring roughly 200 new jobs to Aiken County. The growth follows a corporate acquisition earlier this year by CordenPharma.
Accelerating Global Demand Drives Domestic Investment
Manufacturer leadership pointed directly to surging worldwide needs when the $119 million initiative was first unveiled in June.
“As the global demand for peptide therapeutics accelerates, the need for dependable U.S. manufacturing is extremely important,” AmbioPharm CEO Brian Gregg said when the expansion was initially announced. “This expansion enhances our ability to support our client-partners with scalable, high-quality production while creating new opportunities for skilled talent in Aiken County.”
Two Decades of Industrial Footprint in North Augusta
The company is hardly a newcomer to the region. AmbioPharm has maintained its base inside North Augusta’s industrial park off Dittman Road for 20 years.

Over its two decades in the city, the facility has undergone four other expansions.
The Science Behind the $119 Million Production Push
At the center of the capital investment are peptides—short chains of amino acids produced naturally by the human body. Familiar examples include insulin, endorphins, and growth hormones.
Beyond natural biological functions, these compounds are synthetically manufactured for medical applications. Treatments target conditions ranging from diabetes and endocrine disorders to obesity.
