Aston Martin has introduced the Valen, a new bespoke limited-edition supercar making its public debut at The Quail during Monterey Car Week. Produced by the brand’s ultra-exclusive Q brand and Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team, the Valen is based on the current Vanquish and serves as an experimental alter ego alongside bespoke low-volume projects such as the Valour, Valiant, and DBR22. According to Motor1.com, Aston Martin will build only 150 examples of the car, with custom commissions starting around $2 million.
Aston Martin Unveils Valen V12 Supercar Ahead of Monterey Debut
The Valen is claimed by the manufacturer to be the world’s most powerful front-engine production car. Underneath its vented, broken S-curve bonnet sits a 5.2-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine that generates 850PS (838 horsepower) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque from 2,500 rpm. The powertrain is paired with an eight-speed ZF transmission programmed with Vantage GT4 race shift strategies. Depending on the publication’s metrics cited, the Valen accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds or 0 to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds, on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 214 mph (344 km/h).
Design, Weight-Saving Measures, and Exterior Geometry
Constructed with a full carbon fiber body, the Valen features a low cabin, wide track, and sharp directional geometry. SVO color specialists showcased the Satin Andromeda Red finish, which utilizes Chromaflair interference pigments to shift visual tones between red, copper, gold, and blue as light angles change, paired with exposed carbon fiber panels and 3D-printed components finished in a clear ceramic.
To counter structural weight typical of modern performance platforms, engineers removed up to 110 kg (242 pounds) from the core chassis compared to the standard V12 platform underpinning the Vanquish. Weight savings are achieved through the carbon fiber bodywork, magnesium wheels, titanium bolts, and an optional 16.9 kg (37-pound) lightweight suspension package featuring machined aluminum arms and knuckles. The vehicle also wears 21-inch magnesium wheels over carbon-ceramic brakes.
Asymmetrical Titanium Exhaust System and Acoustic Engineering
One of the most notable features of the Valen is its specially designed titanium exhaust system. Divided into 12 separate header pipes from the front-axle-mounted V12, the exhaust routing places the system closer to the cabin. The setup splits into four tailpipes featuring two low-mounted valved exits and two high-mounted open exits manufactured via 3D printing.
According to Road & Track, the upper outlets function like organ pipes to raise higher frequency tones and increase overall acoustic levels by 50 percent compared to standard V12 platforms. SVO managing director Alex Long explained that the engineering team focused on creating a thrilling experience at lower speeds and lower RPMs rather than requiring extreme speeds to enjoy the exhaust note, with the peak sonic rate arriving around 2,500 rpm.
While the angular routing of the exhaust pipes allows the trunk to retain a solid carbon tailgate enclosing a 170-liter (six-cubic-foot) luggage compartment, chief creative officer Marek Reichman noted that the packaging demands required compromises on the total width and volume of the trunk. Furthermore, the design replaces the traditional glass rear window with a solid carbon tailgate beneath an upswept tail and full-width light bar, leaving the wide rear tires exposed.
