Camille O’Sullivan: Aidan Gillen told me to ‘talk less

“Don’t let Aidan hear that!” Camille O’Sullivan quipped with a wink on LyricFM’s ‘Marty in the Morning’. The Cork-born singer was reacting to a listener’s praise that her shows are “very funny” and “bring them to another world.” O’Sullivan revealed that her partner, actor Aidan Gillen, once told her he wants her to “talk less” in a relationship.

O’Sullivan, who was born in London but raised in Passage West, has been with Gillen for over 13 years. She shared the anecdote while promoting her new show, ‘The Art of Falling Apart’, scheduled for the Olympia Theatre on 21st November.

A Home in Dublin

O’Sullivan opened up about life with Gillen at their stylish Georgian home in Dublin, which they purchased in 2022 and later renovated. The property previously featured on Dermot Bannon on Celebrity Super Spaces, where Camille said they worked hard to preserve the character of the old building.

She told Marty Whelan that they have created separate spaces in the house. “I’ve also loved animals, I’ve got a Springer spaniel who I absolutely adore. They spend most of the time following me around the house. There are these spaces, we’ve created the house so it’d be like a room for art, a room for music. There are three little bars, one hidden behind a door,” she said. The property also has a hidden room for the family’s pet cat and a basement living area.

‘The Art of Falling Apart’

Her new show, ‘The Art of Falling Apart’, celebrates late artists like Shane MacGowan and Sinead O’Connor in an “intimate, heartfelt” event. O’Sullivan gave a sneak peek of what to expect: “Basically I’m living it in real time ladies and gentlemen. I’ve been looking online, ‘Can I learn how to roller skate to go on stage’, there will be a hula hoop. There’s 20 voices in my head and I just want to bring them on stage.”

“This is me with a rock and roll band… It’s real time lads, and the band never know what’s gonna happen.”

A Cork Influence

O’Sullivan has previously opened up that one of her “strongest influences” was simply growing up in the Rebel County. She has an Irish father from Cork, former racing driver Denis O’Sullivan, and French artist mother from Bordeaux, Marie-José.
