The Columbus Division of Police is holding a public auction for roughly 150 impounded vehicles on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026. The sale features cars forfeited, abandoned, or tied to crashes and crimes, with all units sold as-is and mostly carrying salvage titles, according to a report by The Columbus Dispatch.
Where and When the Auction Takes Place
The event opens at 10 a.m. at the city’s impound lot, situated at 2700 Impound Lot Road off Haul Road just south of State Route 104 on Columbus’s South Side. Admission is entirely free, but anyone hoping to place a bid must be at least 18 years old.
Prospective buyers need to register and show identification before bidding commences. Registration starts promptly at 8:30 a.m., giving interested buyers a window from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. to inspect the vehicles on-site.
Payment Rules and Removal Deadlines
The police division prefers cash transactions, though personal and business checks are accepted if buyers bring a signed letter from their bank verifying sufficient funds. Winning bidders must settle their accounts by 1 p.m. on the day of the auction.
Every purchased car must be hauled away from the impound facility by noon on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026.
Looking Ahead at the Impound Schedule
This weekend’s event marks the second-to-last vehicle auction hosted by the Columbus police division for the calendar year. For buyers who miss out on Saturday, the division has tentatively scheduled its final vehicle auction of the year for Dec. 12.
