Energy Strength Lifts Eni While Retail Pressures Weigh on Burlington Stores
Global energy markets and off-price retail are heading in opposite directions this week. On October 29, 2026, Zacks Equity Research issued its latest market analysis, naming Italian energy giant Eni as the Bull of the Day while designating off-price retailer Burlington Stores as the Bear of the Day.
Surging crude oil prices and improving earnings expectations are driving momentum across the energy sector. Eni’s integrated international industry currently ranks in the top 3% of more than 240 Zacks industries, reflecting strong sector-wide tailwinds. The company’s diversified portfolio spans oil and gas production, refining, liquefied natural gas, and renewable energy.
Eni’s Surging Estimates and Attractive Valuation
Analysts have turned increasingly bullish on Eni’s profitability as geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions keep crude prices elevated. Over the past 60 days, fiscal 2026 earnings-per-share estimates jumped 15% from $5.77 to $6.65, pointing to 90% year-over-year growth. Projections for fiscal 2027 rose 25% over the same period, moving from $5.08 to $6.38 per share.
Even though Eni shares have rallied nearly 70% year-to-date and sit near their 52-week high of $62, the stock trades at just nine times forward earnings and under one times annual sales.
Eni has raised its payout at an annualized rate of 6.31% over the past five years.
Burlington Stores Faces Margins Pressure and Technical Headwinds
Shares have plunged nearly 40% over the last three months and sit down roughly 20% year-to-date.
Over the last 60 days, Burlington’s current fiscal-year EPS estimate fell 5.5% to $11.92, while next year’s projection declined to $13.23 per share.

Technical indicators add to the bearish outlook. Burlington shares are trading well below their 50-day and 200-day simple moving averages of approximately $262 and $306, respectively. The 50-day moving average has fallen below the 200-day moving average, forming a death cross pattern that signals weakening momentum as the stock approaches its 52-week low near $226.
