Prior Recoveries Along the Bayonne Waterfront
Tuesday’s incident marks the second time in recent years that a body has been recovered from the Newark Bay waters near Stephen R. Gregg Park. Law enforcement officials have emphasized that there is currently no indication connecting the two incidents.

In March 2024, search efforts concluded nearby when the body of an 18-year-old woman was pulled from the bay. That victim was later identified as Hayley Erin Alvarado, a Jersey City resident and freshman at Montclair State University who had been reported missing months prior. Her family subsequently remembered her for her kindness, brilliance, and passionate advocacy.
Investigators have not disclosed whether any similar missing persons reports currently match Tuesday’s recovery. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and local medical examiners continue their investigation into the ongoing matter.
