Former LMPD Officer Marcel Williams Faces New Child Abuse Charge

Former LMPD officer charged with child abuse

Marcel Williams, a former Louisville Metro Police Department officer, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of child abuse. According to reports from WDRB and WAVE, Williams is accused of striking his 8-year-old child multiple times with a belt. The incident reportedly left the child with visible bruising on their thighs and buttocks.

The investigation began after the child’s mother contacted police to file a report. As part of the evidence provided to investigators, the mother shared photographs documenting the child’s injuries. This latest charge adds to an existing legal battle for Williams, who was already under indictment for separate criminal allegations.

Grand jury indicts former officers on payroll theft charges

Before his arrest on the child abuse charge, Williams was already facing legal scrutiny regarding his time at the Louisville Metro Police Department. Over the summer, a grand jury indicted Williams and another former officer, Salat Aweys, on charges of payroll theft. Prosecutors in that case alleged that the two men engaged in a practice of “double-dipping.”

The theft allegations center on claims that Williams and Aweys worked private security shifts at a Louisville Metro Housing Authority property in the Park Hill neighborhood while they were simultaneously on duty and drawing pay from the LMPD. Both men have pleaded not guilty to the theft charges and were previously released on their own recognizance.

LMPD officials confirmed that Salat Aweys resigned from the force in January. Regarding Williams, the department initiated the termination process following the grand jury indictment handed down earlier this year.
