Southeast North Carolina Veterans Parade Returns to Downtown Wilmington
The Southeast North Carolina Veterans Parade is set to return to the streets of downtown Wilmington this Saturday, Nov. 7. The annual procession, which honors local service members and their families, will feature a wide array of military units, pipe and drum bands, and vintage military vehicles, according to reporting from WWAY.
This year’s event carries a broader scope than in years past. Organizers are tying the celebration to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, a milestone that has prompted an expansion of the festivities. Si Cantwell, the parade organizer, noted in an interview with WWAY that the event is expected to be larger than previous iterations, with a specific focus on community and historical recognition.
Pre-Parade Show Starts at 10 a.M
The day’s activities begin well before the main procession steps off. At 10 a.m., a pre-parade show will commence, featuring the Veterans Day Brass Quintet, the Beaches & Boots line dancers from Carolina Beach, and the UNCW Seabelles, an all-female a cappella group.
According to WECT, the main parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. along North Third Street. The route will follow a path starting at Hanover Street and concluding at Market Street. While spectators are encouraged to view the procession from any point along the route, organizers have designated the grandstands located across from Thalian Hall as a central viewing area.

Veterans Can Join Parade or Get a Ride
Organizers are emphasizing inclusivity for veterans who wish to participate in the procession. Si Cantwell stated that any veteran is invited to join, and for those who may have difficulty walking the length of the route, transportation will be provided.
“Any veteran is invited to be in the parade,” Cantwell told WECT. “If you can’t walk, we’ll get you a ride. We’d love to have all veterans take part.”
Beyond the parade itself, the event functions as a networking hub for service members. Following the procession, an information fair will be hosted at The Eagles Dare, located near the intersection of Third and Red Cross streets. This fair, which begins at 11 a.m. and lasts into the afternoon, aims to connect veterans with local service providers and nonprofits. The venue will also offer food from Port City Plates and live entertainment provided by the band The Clams.
Historical Context and Community Impact
The theme for this year’s gathering is “Honoring service, inspiring generations, and strengthening community,” as reported by WECT. By integrating the national 250th-anniversary milestone into a local parade, organizers are attempting to bridge the gap between historic national narratives and the personal experiences of local veterans.
The event remains a significant logistical undertaking for downtown Wilmington, requiring the coordination of military units, high school marching bands, and local vendors. For those seeking to participate or gather more details regarding the logistics of the day, additional information is available through the event’s official online resources.
