FSU Center Bradyn Welch-Joiner Carted Off With Leg Injury Against Boston College

Air Cast Applied on the Chestnut Hill Turf

Medical staff rushed to apply an air cast to Bradyn Welch-Joiner’s right leg within seconds as the senior center writhed on the field late in the second quarter of Saturday’s game in Chestnut Hill. Welch-Joiner was rolled up on by multiple players during a short run on the Seminoles’ final drive of the half, leaving his leg bending awkwardly under the pile while teammates called frantically to the sideline for help.

Injury Likely Ends Welch-Joiner Season

The entire Florida State coaching staff and roster surrounded the cart as he was taken off. Welch-Joiner had started each of the first nine games of the 2026 season after transferring from Purdue in January, bringing a career total of 22 appearances and 17 total starts between Purdue and Auburn. While no official announcement has been made, the injury is expected to end his 2026 campaign.

Offensive Line Shuffle in Boston

Sophomore Chavez ‘Sandman’ Thompson replaced Welch-Joiner at center. Thompson appeared in four games last year, though his playing time was limited exclusively to garbage time. The rest of the offensive line remained intact during the shift, though Xavier Chaplin briefly exited the game in the second quarter before returning to the field. During Chaplin’s brief absence, Florida State flexed Nate Pabst to left tackle and inserted Chimdia Nwaiwu at right tackle.

Mounting Attrition for the Seminoles

The injury compounds a brutal stretch of attrition for Florida State. Entering the matchup against Boston College already shorthanded due to a myriad of injuries, the Seminoles have lost two of their top stars to season-ending injuries in the last two games. Ousmane Kromah went down against Miami, and Duce Robinson tore his ACL during the loss to Clemson.

Halftime Lead Amid Emotional Blow

Despite the offensive line shuffle and the emotional blow of losing their starting center, Florida State managed to battle back from a two-possession deficit in a back-and-forth first half to establish a 21-17 lead heading into the locker room.
