Hartford Volleyball Beats Framingham State 3-1 on Senior Day

The Hartford volleyball team turned their final home appearance of the 2026 season into a statement performance, securing a 3-1 victory over Framingham State University this past Wednesday.

The match was defined by a series of momentum shifts that tested the Hawks’ resolve. After dropping the opening points, Hartford found themselves trailing 21-16 in the first set. A late-game surge, powered by kills from sophomore Lauren Johnson and a crucial service ace from freshman Calla McCombs, forced a tie at 21-21. The teams pushed into extra points, with the Hawks eventually clinching a 28-26 victory. This narrow opening win set the tone for a match where service pressure proved to be the deciding factor.

Hawks Dominate Service Line to Disrupt Rams

While Hartford finished with 48 kills to Framingham State’s 40, the most glaring statistical gap appeared at the service line. The Hawks recorded 16 service aces compared to just seven for the Rams. This aggressive serving strategy, particularly from freshman Arianna Mapa, disrupted the Rams’ offensive rhythm. The Hawks’ timely serving was the engine behind their ability to close out sets, especially during a decisive fourth-set run where Camille Earl rattled off three consecutive aces.

The individual performances mirrored the team’s collective efficiency. Calla McCombs paced the offense with 14 kills and added 16 digs, finishing with a team-high 20 points. Mattea Cosby orchestrated the attack with 37 assists, ensuring that Hartford’s front-line hitters—including senior Jordan Murphy, who tallied six blocks—remained effective against a Rams defense led by Natalie Reynolds’ match-high 19 kills.

Defending your home court during senior night is a special feeling. The three young ladies who played their last whole match on their home floor tonight have met so much to this program and are leaving it in a better place than when they found it. Stuart Chip is not easy and I am so happy that they are able to walk away from their last home match with a win tonight.

For seniors Jordan Murphy, Jenna Murphy, and junior Gigi Churn, the match served as a final celebratory milestone on their home floor.

The Road Ahead to the Regular Season Finale

With the home schedule concluded, the Hawks are shifting their focus to the final test of the regular season. On Saturday, November 7, the team travels to Wenham, Massachusetts, to face Gordon College. The match, scheduled for 1:00 PM, represents the final opportunity for Hartford to conclude its regular season.

While the Hawks celebrated their success on Wednesday, the inherent challenge of collegiate athletics remains the quick turnaround. Competing on the road against a conference opponent like Gordon College requires the same level of tactical discipline the Hawks displayed in their victory over Framingham State.
