IKEA and Xbox Launch YXSTABY Gaming Furniture Collection

IKEA and Xbox launched the nine-piece YXSTABY gaming furniture collection, combining original controller-inspired designs with everyday home goods.

The Gamescom Debut and Design Partnership Behind YXSTABY

The collaboration pairs IKEA’s over 80 years of life-at-home expertise with Xbox’s 25 years of understanding how people play. The resulting line was first unveiled at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, on August 26, before rolling out to retail channels.

“At IKEA, we believe gaming deserves a place in the home that feels just as thoughtful, comfortable and personal as any other everyday activity,” said Philip Dilé, Product Developer at IKEA. “With YXSTABY, we worked closely with XBOX to reimagine familiar forms into playful, functional pieces that make it easier for people to bring their love of gaming into the spaces where they live.”

YXSTABY Furniture Mimics Xbox Wireless Controller Geometry

The collection draws heavily from the recognizable geometry of the Xbox Wireless Controller, hiding functional storage inside familiar forms. According to a representative who spoke with Mashable, the YXSTABY line derives its name from a minor Swedish settlement selected precisely because its title features the four letter designations found on Xbox controller buttons: X, Y, B, and A.

  • Thumbstick Stool: Developed using original 3D CAD files from the Xbox Wireless Controller provided by an Xbox device designer, the stool features a rounded base that tilts with body movement just like an actual thumbstick, and a grip texture originally designed to keep thumbs from slipping that is repurposed to hold the person sitting on it.
  • TV Stand on Castors: The collection includes a TV stand on castors that offers great utility, allowing users to move consoles, controllers, and cables into another room all at once.
  • Gaming Lounge Chair: The collection also includes the YXSTABY Gaming lounge chair, which bears design similarities to IKEA’s popular POÄNG armchair and includes hidden pockets under the seat to tuck controllers away.
  • Gaming D-pad Cushion: Another surprising item in the YXSTABY collection is the X-shaped green Gaming D-pad cushion. This offers great utility whether you’re gaming, relaxing, or even if you have arm pain. A relative dealing with arm discomfort tested out the Gaming D-pad cushion and reported significant relief, promptly asking about purchasing one for themselves.
  • Gaming D-pad Controller Platter: Among the most visually appealing items is the YXSTABY Gaming d-pad controller platter, featuring an understated design that doesn’t immediately give away its gaming inspirations. Although designed primarily for keeping track of remotes and controllers, the tray also serves well for organizing other everyday tabletop necessities like fruit. Because the polished stainless steel surface readily accumulates smudges from fingerprints, it performs best in applications involving minimal physical touch.
  • Mirrored Display Box: Designed with mirrored surfaces, this display case allows collectors to view a controller from every angle while highlighting figures and other cherished memorabilia. Throughout the collection, there are also hidden symbols, puzzles, and Easter eggs referencing Xbox game characters.

Global Store Releases and Timelines for US and International Buyers

Market rollouts commenced on October 1 across territories such as Canada and the UK, although the furniture retailer cautioned that local availability might differ. Australians are able to pick up the collection both in store and online now.

However, release plans and pricing for South Korea have not yet been confirmed.

Even though IKEA intends to stock the majority of the YXSTABY assortment for an extended period alongside future gaming expansion efforts, select items have a strictly limited shelf life. Pointing specifically to the YXSTABY Gaming thumb stick stool, an IKEA representative told Mashable that the product will only be sold for a 12-month window, making prompt purchase advisable for interested buyers.
