IKEA Annapolis Plan and Order location has permanently closed

Annapolis Store Shuts Doors as Regional Retrenchment Accelerates

Having ceased operations permanently, the Annapolis IKEA Plan and Order with Pickup facility is now the second of three DMV branches slated to close this autumn.

The Annapolis site shut its doors on October 30. That closure followed the October 18 shuttering of IKEA’s Georgetown location. One final regional shutdown remains on the corporate calendar, with the Fairfax storefront scheduled to close on November 30.

Shifting Capital Toward Digital Channels and Home Delivery

These retail contractions form part of a broader corporate strategy.

According to earlier statements from IKEA, these modifications are designed to foster a more accessible, sustainable, and budget-friendly enterprise while the firm maintains its focus on online retail, home delivery, and pickup options.

Customer Service Continuity and Remote Design Options

For local shoppers caught in the middle of ongoing interior projects, the company indicates that customer service continuity remains in place. Clients managing active designs can continue working with IKEA specialists either remotely online or through other locations.

The DMV footprint will still retain vital anchors. IKEA’s full-size College Park store remains fully operational. Additionally, the smaller-format Plan and Order location at Rio in Gaithersburg—which opened in March 2024 at 101 Boardwalk Place—stays open seven days a week from 11am to 7pm.

Unlike a traditional IKEA store, the Gaithersburg site features no products or food available for immediate purchase. Instead, the specialized showroom allows customers to consult with IKEA specialists to plan, price, and order custom layouts for kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms.

Staff Transfers and the Upcoming Fairfax Closure

Employees affected by the autumn closures received opportunities to transfer to nearby IKEA stores, including College Park.

The final regional closure on the current schedule takes place in Fairfax on November 30.
