Nevada State Parks is hosting a ranger-guided hike along the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Wash Trail, offering visitors an introductory look at the area’s natural environment, parks.nv.gov reported. The leisurely trek covers uneven terrain with gravely surfaces, some steps, and steep slopes, lasting approximately two hours.
Event Logistics and Practical Details
The program takes place without any facilities—such as restrooms or water—along the route. Participants must bring their own water, comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and sun protection. Pets are strictly prohibited for safety reasons, and any minors under the age of 16 need an adult accompaniment.
While there is no additional cost for the program itself, the standard $3 per person entry fee applies, though kids 12 and under enter free. No advance registration is required, but organizers advise visitors to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to check in before the start time. Most of the trail is not appropriate for wheelchairs or mobility devices due to the uneven ground and steep slopes.
Schedule and Weather Contingencies
Because the program is weather dependent, it may be canceled without notice. Officials recommend checking the official Nevada State Parks website for updates before heading out. Visitors requiring reasonable communication accommodations should contact the park or event coordinators at least 10 days in advance.

The event is hosted by Ice Age Fossils State Park. Park interpreters Dawn Reynoso and Emilisa Saunders are managing inquiries for the program and can be reached via email at [email protected] or [email protected], or by phone at 702-533-7819.
