Daniel Greenberg Charters Bus Between New York and Boston Following Travel Delays

Frustrated by frequent transit setbacks after evaluating the most efficient path to and from New York City, Daniel Greenberg decided to hire his own private vehicle, as reported by his own bus. On Friday, Oct.

Magellan, a new transit enterprise founded by Greenberg, will make its inaugural round-trip journey between New York City and Boston on October 30, 2026.

Taking its moniker from the famed navigator who spearheaded the inaugural voyage around the planet, the business seeks “to chart better ways from [point] A to B,” Greenberg said.

“I’ve taken a plane. I’ve taken a train. I’ve taken a bus and I just haven’t been satisfied with [any of] them,” Greenberg said. “It started because my girlfriend is in New York and I need a better way from Boston to New York.”

From Consulting Bonus to Private Bus Charter

After months of complaining about transit problems, Greenberg decided to put his money toward a solution. He used a bonus from his full-time consulting job to charter the bus. “I [had] to put my money where my mouth is,” he said.

While Greenberg initially believed that reserving a vehicle would be simple, the process actually required him to establish specific boarding and drop-off spots, organize the origin point for the vehicle, and secure a pair of drivers for the trip.

Each bus holds 30 passengers. By Thursday morning, the Friday morning departure from New York heading to Boston had filled roughly half its capacity, whereas the evening return journey from Boston to New York retained about seven open spots.

Ticket Pricing and Amenities Compared to Traditional Options

Passes are priced at $125 each way for solitary seating in an individual row, or $109 for a spot within a row occupied alongside another traveler.

Passengers receive complimentary internet connectivity, a charging plug, a pair of water bottles, a packet of vitamin C supplement, and a nutrition bar included with their ticket price.

By comparison, Greyhound reports that single-trip bus fares heading toward New York generally range from $70 up to nearly $200, whereas railway tickets via Amtrak can cost as much as $300 for a one-way trip.

Greenberg doesn’t expect to recoup all of his costs from the initial trips. However, he still plans to continue chartering buses and testing other transit methods between the two cities.

One possibility is to stop in the New York suburbs and have passengers “get on a train into the city,” he said. Another is to have “everyone split into four-person Ubers.”
