Federal authorities have indicted a Kansas City-area member of the Pagan’s Motorcycle Club following a violent highway ambush that left a rival club member struck by gunfire seven times, according to KCTV5.

The Blue Springs Highway Shooting and Federal Indictments

Charles E. Smith, Jr., known as ‘Crash’, 40, of Kansas City, was convicted of assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Federal officials stated that on September 17, 2022, Smith and fellow Pagan’s Motorcycle Club members actively chased a rival club member’s vehicle, forced it off the road in Blue Springs, and shot the victim seven separate times.

The barrage of gunfire struck the victim in the knee, thigh, forearm, biceps, buttocks, and the back of the leg. Due to the nature of the charges, Smith now faces life in federal prison without parole.

Earlier Retaliation Plans in Topeka

The federal indictment also details a prior incident weeks earlier. On September 3, 2022, John Travis Fisher, known as ‘T-Bone’, 52, of Mannford, Oklahoma, traveled alongside other members of the Pagan’s Motorcycle Club to Topeka. Federal officials reported that the group intended to execute a planned retaliation attack against a rival motorcycle club.

When the group spotted a rival member in a hotel parking lot, they prepared to launch the assault before ultimately aborting the mission and returning to Kansas City. Fisher has since been convicted of attempted assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering and faces up to three years in federal prison without parole.
