What are pants without a shirt in ‘Shirtzenpantz’ right?
Ethan, a representative for Shirtzenpantz, told KPTV regarding the shop’s latest public spectacle.
At the corner of Southwest Park Avenue and Southwest Washington Street on Thursday evening, local vintage and clothing store Shirtzenpantz finished its giant ensemble by showing off a custom creation it calls the biggest flannel shirt in the world.
Pendleton Wool and Local Craftsmanship
Crafted from genuine Pendleton wool, the red-and-black checkered shirt measures roughly 9 feet in width by 13 feet in length. The massive garment serves as a replica of Pendleton’s classic Canyon Shirt, a heritage brand wool style, and was assembled locally through a collaboration with the Portland Garment Factory.
The Logic Behind the Giant Wardrobe
Ethan explained during a television appearance that the project came together naturally following a partnership request from the heritage brand, adding that the team wanted to assemble the world’s largest outfit.
Brass Bands and Street-Level Revelry
Attendees watched as the piece was unrolled during the public unveiling on Thursday, which included a live musical performance by a brass band. Guests at the outdoor event also enjoyed complimentary food alongside a local referee who directed the movement of the crowd.
Architectural Hurdles for Permanent Display
Visitors stepping into the business currently walk right through the legs of an enormous pair of denim pants built across the entranceway. Employees at the store mentioned that their ultimate goal is to put the brand-new wool shirt on permanent display inside. Yet, the crew faces a unique design dilemma in trying to locate enough wall and ceiling room to exhibit both giant pieces of clothing at the same time.
