Kelly Walsh Sweeps 4A East Regional to Extend Undefeated Season
Perfection is a heavy armor to wear through a long autumn, but the Kelly Walsh volleyball team has made it look remarkably routine. While many postseason contenders stumble when the pressure mounts, the Trojans swept their way to the 4A East Regional Volleyball trophy, securing a flawless 34-0 record as they head toward the state tournament.
The path through the regional tournament demanded steady resilience rather than sheer coasting. Opening weekend play began cleanly enough with a three-set sweep against Cheyenne South, with scores of 25-16, 25-13, and 25-16. Another crisp sweep against the Sheridan Broncs in the semifinals pushed Kelly Walsh straight to the title match, setting up a high-stakes collision with Thunder Basin.
The Thunder Basin Test and the Turning Point
Championship matches rarely come without a scare, and Thunder Basin provided the Trojans with their toughest test of the tournament. The opening set swung back and forth before the Bolts grabbed a 24-22 advantage. A timely Kelly Walsh timeout reset the floor, allowing the Trojans to claw back and take the frame 26-24.
That narrow escape dissolved any remaining tension. The Trojans did not trail for the remainder of the match, dismantling set two 25-15 and sealing the regional crown with a 25-17 victory in the third set.
Thunder Basin had great defense, and they were playing so well against us, and I think it fired us up and caused us to play a little harder the next two sets,
senior outside hitter Lillian Hudson said.
Hudson anchored the offense in the final match with 12 kills, while sophomore Eisley Clark led the team with three blocks. Head coach Jeff Barkell earned the Coach of the Year honor as his squad’s relentless preparation paid off on the regional floor.
To State as the Top Seed
The victory keeps the record unblemished at 34-0, crowning Kelly Walsh as the one seed out of the East. The stakes now shift dramatically to the 2026 State Volleyball Tournament.
The Trojans will play on their home turf, opening the state bracket against Star Valley on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. Whether this seasoned roster can turn regional dominance into a state title remains the final question on a court they have owned all season long.
