UW-Whitewater Women’s Soccer loses 1-0 to UW-La Crosse

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women’s soccer team wrapped up its regular season on Fiskum Field facing a narrow defeat that shifts the squad straight into postseason territory. The Warhawks fell 1-0 to UW-La Crosse in their final regular season match, conceding the decisive goal in the final minute of the opening half.

That lone breakthrough at 44:06 proved insurmountable for UW-Whitewater (13-4-3 overall, 3-2-2 in conference play), despite a defensive effort that kept the Eagles (18-1-0, 6-1-0) scoreless through sustained pressure for the vast majority of the first forty-five minutes. Lauren Ripley anchored the early defense with five saves in the first half alone, turning away attempts from Aubree Caya, Kate Heiderscheit, and Amaya Thesing.

Chasing the Equalizer on Fiskum Field

Offensive looks came at a premium against the visiting Eagles, though the Warhawks tested the defense across both halves. Karina Osborn manufactured Whitewater’s first look in the seventh minute, while Anna Gunderson forced a save in the 38th minute alongside a corner kick. Brooklynn Carlson added another shot on frame just before the visitors broke the stalemate.

The second half saw the Warhawks mount multiple pushes to draw level. Jasmine Wilson tested Summer Nicolai at 51:23, followed quickly by two attempts from Genevieve Simkowski. Aria Patel and Rachel Cvikel also put pressure on the visitor’s defense as the clock wound down. Rowan Severson unleashed a final push with a shot saved in the 89th minute, immediately preceding a last-minute corner kick at 89:25 that ultimately failed to yield the equalizer.

Looking Ahead to the WIAC Tournament

With the regular season concluded, the Warhawks turn their attention to the upcoming postseason bracket. UW-Whitewater enters the WIAC Tournament as the three-seed.

The opening round brings a familiar test. The Warhawks face UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday, November 3rd, with kick-off scheduled for 7 PM on Fiskum Field.
