Lakewood Police Officer Killed and Three Wounded in RTD Bus Shootout
A Lakewood Police Department agent was killed and three others were wounded after a man opened fire on them while boarding a Regional Transportation District bus at a busy metro Denver intersection Thursday night. The violent confrontation erupted around 6:30 p.m. near West Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard when four police agents approached a suspicious person, according to agency spokesperson John Romero.
The armed suspect was killed by police gunfire at the scene. In addition to the four wounded officers, a civilian was also struck during the crossfire and subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment, Governor Jared Polis’ office confirmed. While authorities have not yet publicly identified the officer who died, injured personnel and the civilian were rushed to Denver Health for emergency medical care.
