Wanted Suspect Hospitalized After Officer-Involved Shooting in Colorado Springs

Officer-Involved Shooting at Aviator Apartments

A wanted suspect remains in serious but stable condition following an officer-involved shooting that unfolded in northeast Colorado Springs on the afternoon of November 4, 2026. The incident, which triggered a significant law enforcement response, occurred just after 2:00 p.m. at the Aviator Apartments located at 1670 North Murray Boulevard, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

The confrontation began when the department’s Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force attempted to take an individual with an active arrest warrant into custody. Authorities had identified the suspect as both armed and dangerous prior to the encounter. As officers approached a vehicle in the apartment complex parking lot and identified themselves, the situation escalated rapidly. KKTV reported that the suspect allegedly fired at least one shot from the passenger seat, striking the windshield of a police vehicle.

In response, officers and at least one deputy from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office returned fire, striking the suspect. While the suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical care, no officers or deputies were injured during the exchange. Residents near the scene described the intensity of the event; Cecil Stroud, a resident at the Aviator Apartments, told KKTV that the sound of the gunfire reminded him of a “war zone.”

Investigators Process the Scene

The immediate aftermath resulted in road closures along North Murray Boulevard between Sawyer Way and Palmer Park Boulevard, as investigators processed the scene. While residents were eventually permitted to return to their homes, access to the interior parking lot remained restricted throughout the evening as the investigation continued. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is leading the inquiry into the use of force, with active assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

KOAA reported that this multi-agency response included members of the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Impact Team and the Tactical Enforcement Unit.

The Colorado Springs Police Department has stated its intent to release a significant event briefing video, which will include body-worn camera footage and further details, within 21 days. As of now, police have not disclosed the identity of the suspect or the specific nature of the original arrest warrant, citing the active status of the investigation.

External Agency Maintains Oversight

The involvement of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation—a standard procedure in officer-involved shootings—ensures that an external agency maintains oversight of the evidence collected at 1670 North Murray Boulevard.

While the area has since reopened to traffic, the investigation into the specific sequence of events will likely continue for several weeks. Authorities have not indicated when the suspect might be released from the hospital into police custody, nor have they provided further updates on the suspect’s condition beyond the “serious but stable” status provided Wednesday night.
