Less than 30 seconds. That is how long it took Jacob Miller to come out and surrender after the Laramie County SWAT team arrived at a home on the 8000 block of Cowboy Road in Cheyenne Wednesday morning. The 44-year-old was taken into custody on a felony warrant dating back to an incident on October 2, 2026, in which he is alleged to have strangled a household member.
Cheyenne Police spokesman David Janes said the deployment was driven by the violent nature of the alleged crime, Miller’s overall criminal history — which includes resisting police — and information that he may have had access to firearms. The layout of the property added another layer of risk: several outbuildings and vehicles, plus campers parked outside, meant an armed suspect could have created a dangerous situation if he chose to resist.
Why SWAT Was Called to Cowboy Road
Janes said the team had information that Miller was either in the basement of the house or possibly in one of the campers parked outside. When officers arrived, they made several announcements ordering him to come out and deployed a flashbang distraction device. Miller came out and surrendered in under 30 seconds, according to Janes.
He was then taken to the Laramie County Jail. The original October 2 incident — in which Miller is alleged to have held a household member for several hours inside Cheyenne city limits and attempted to strangle the victim — remains under investigation.
Charges Could Change as the Case Moves Forward
Janes said it is possible the District Attorney’s Office may change or add charges against Miller as that investigation continues. No court date or further charging decision is on record yet; the next dated development remains the ongoing review of the October 2 incident by investigators and prosecutors.
