Metropolitan State University of Denver has secured recertification for the prestigious Seal of Excelencia while ranking fifth nationwide among TheDream.US scholarship partners, channeling $8.5 million to Dreamer students for the 2025-26 academic year, early-bird.msudenver.edu reported.
More than 37% of MSU Denver students are Latino. The Seal of Excelencia recertification, which MSU Denver first earned in 2023 as the first higher education institution in Colorado to receive the honor, validates three years of sustained work across data, evidence-based practices and leadership.
That 2023 certification marked a watershed moment for Colorado higher education, and the new recertification confirms the university has maintained the rigorous standards required to hold the seal. The honor remains valid for three years before institutions must apply again, a cycle that forces colleges to treat Latino student success as an ongoing operational priority rather than a one-time achievement.
Three-Year Cycle Keeps Standards Honest
The recertification process demands that institutions prove they have met specified standards in all three core components, a requirement that dating back to 2018 has pushed universities to embed support structures into their administrative fabric. For MSU Denver, this means the federal Hispanic-Serving Institution distinction earned in 2019—which provides access to federal funding to expand educational opportunities—works in tandem with the Seal to create a layered accountability system.

That HSI status, now seven years old, has allowed the university to tap federal resources specifically earmarked for strengthening student success programs. The Seal builds on that foundation by requiring public demonstration of intentionality and integrity, not just enrollment numbers.
$8.5 Million Flows to Roadrunners Through TheDream.US
The second national distinction reflects the university’s role as a gateway for Dreamer students through TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college and career success program for Dreamers. Established as a public nonprofit in 2014, TheDream.US now serves 79 higher education partners nationwide and has provided $326 million in scholarships since its founding.
MSU Denver’s fifth-place ranking among those partners for the 2025-26 academic year translates to $8.5 million in concrete financial support for Roadrunners. The scholarship program encourages applications from candidates who demonstrate commitment to community service and ability to overcome barriers, alongside strong academic records, creating a holistic admissions lens.
TheDream.US has provided $326 million in scholarships, and MSU Denver was the No. 5-ranked partner nationwide for the 2025-26 year.
