MSU Sanctions Sigma Alpha Epsilon After Drug Video Surfaces

Michigan State Sanctions SAE After Video Surfaces Highlighting Drug Use

Michigan State University issued a Deferred Loss of Registration to Sigma Alpha Epsilon on Tuesday, October 27, following a circulating social media video that shows alleged fraternity members using illicit drugs, The State News reported. University President Kevin Guskiewicz called the incidents deeply concerning in a social media statement, while MSU Spokesperson Emily Guerrant confirmed that an investigation is underway.

The clip, uploaded on October 30 by user DonnieFrazier69 on X, features a montage of individuals appearing to consume cocaine and whippets. The footage explicitly references a multi-year, campuswide drug operation at Pennsylvania State University uncovered earlier this year, which involved 14 individuals charged in connection to a $120,000 drug ring tied to two local fraternities. Captions across the video include phrases such as, People thought Penn State was bad? Lets rip some f—ing bag babyyyy. And some f—ing k too baby, alongside additional text reading you should be willing to die to be in the bag force 1 and if the DEA isn’t banging on our door were doing it wrong. References to the Drug Enforcement Administration also appeared alongside mentions of bag and K as colloquial terms for cocaine and ketamine.

Under the terms of the Deferred Loss of Registration, the MSU chapter retains its university affiliation but must adhere strictly to outlined sanctions while avoiding any additional policy violations. Guerrant stated that campus administrators coordinated with SAE’s national headquarters after the video came to light, noting that the material was brought to the university’s attention through that collaboration. A formal cease and desist letter was delivered to the fraternity, ordering all chapter activities to halt immediately as communication opens between university officials and national representatives regarding the scope of the review.
