Susan Collins accuses Schumer of false attack ads

Sen. Susan Collins blasted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democratic Party over what she described as a wave of false attack ads targeting her and other Republican candidates, stating during a Fox News interview that she has never seen a campaign with so many outright lies.

The Maine Senate Showdown and the Latest Polling Dead Heat

As the race unfolds in Maine ahead of Election Day, the Senate contest finds Collins facing her Democratic challenger, Troy Jackson. According to the latest Fox News poll, both candidates sit tied at 49% support.

With Senate control hinging on a coin flip in an increasingly narrow map, national Democratic strategies have converged heavily on the Pine Tree State. Collins pointed directly to what she terms “Chuck Schumer’s playbook,” arguing that national party architects are deliberately flooding local airwaves with misleading narratives to sway voters.

Disputed Claims Over Jeffrey Epstein and Nationalized Tactics

Among the most glaring examples cited by the longtime Republican incumbent is an advertisement touching upon Jeffrey Epstein. Collins asserted that after discussing the matter with colleagues facing similarly difficult reelection battles, she discovered that virtually identical spots were deployed against them in other states.

“One of the outrageous, completely false ads against me had to do with Jeffrey Epstein. And it turns out, in talking to two of my colleagues who are in tough races, that they had virtually identical ads run against them. So this is part of Chuck Schumer’s playbook,” Collins said during her Sunday appearance.

“It’s certainly an attempt by my opponent and Chuck Schumer and their allies to nationalize this race,” Collins told Fox News.

Bipartisanship and the Battle Over Voting Records

Amid the friction of the closing campaign days, Collins has sought to reframe her political identity around independence and cross-aisle cooperation.

“Unfortunately, a lot of them have given up and retired or decided they just didn’t want to run again. And that’s one reason I am running again,” Collins noted. “We need more people who are willing to work across party lines. That is really important.”

Addressing persistent criticisms regarding her alignment with President Donald Trump, Collins pushed back against standard metrics used by political opponents.

“There’s this phony figure out there that I voted with President Trump 95% of the time. That’s based on a sample of only 30% of the votes. If you look at a broader sample of 90% of the vote, that drops significantly to like 72%. And I voted against the president’s policies 138 times,” she explained.

While challenger Troy Jackson has previously expressed strong confidence in his path to victory, telling Fox News he believes he has a good shot at unseating the incumbent, Collins insists that grassroots enthusiasm across Maine communities leaves her more optimistic than ever as the final hours tick down.
