Alabama men’s basketball is gaining serious momentum on the recruiting trail once again, with multiple analysts projecting the Crimson Tide to land composite 5-star forward Zion Green for the 2027 class, according to reporting by BamaHammer.
The recruitment shift comes less than two months after head coach Nate Oats and assistant coach Preston Murphy secured a commitment from composite 5-star guard Chase Lumpkin out of Georgia. Green, a Philadelphia native playing at Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, is ranked as the No. 24 overall player in the 247Sports composite. He stands 6-foot-9 and 190 pounds, fitting the versatile mold of former Crimson Tide standouts Noah Clowney and Jarin Stevenson.
Green took an official visit to Tuscaloosa in September. Initially, multiple predictions favored Ole Miss in his recruitment. However, the Rebels recently landed 4-star power forward Ahmed Nur, a player with a similar physical profile to Green. Following that commitment, the recruitment landscape shifted.
On Friday, national writers Joe Tipton and Jamie Shaw, alongside Ole Miss team reporter Zach Berry, logged predictions on the Rivals Prediction Machine projecting Green to choose Alabama.
If Green commits to the Crimson Tide, he would join Lumpkin as the second composite 5-star prospect ranked in the national Top 25 for the 2027 cycle. During Pro16 play, Green shot 41% from three-point range on 2.6 attempts per game while converting 78% of his free throw attempts.
Because Alabama signed a substantial 2026 class featuring 5-star Jaxon Richardson and 4-stars Qayden Samuels, Anderson Diaz, and Tarris Bouie—and anticipates strong roster returners for the 2027-28 season—Oats and Murphy may limit the high school class size to preserve scholarship room for the Transfer Portal. Diaz previously reclassified from the 2027 class to join the 2026 cycle immediately, demonstrating the fluid nature of the program’s roster management.
