The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC saw their 2026 campaign conclude on Saturday night following a 4-0 defeat against New Mexico United.
The Western Conference Semifinal match, held in Albuquerque, brought a definitive end to the club’s postseason aspirations.
New Mexico United established control early, finding the back of the net in the 2nd minute. According to the match report from the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Joseph Quiah delivered a ball to Charlie Dennis inside the six-yard box, who beat goalkeeper Christian Herrera to open the scoring.
The hosts expanded their advantage in the 29th minute when Ousman Jabang set up Greg Hurst for the second goal of the evening. Hurst struck again just before the halftime whistle, sending the teams into the break with New Mexico holding a 3-0 lead.
The Switchbacks attempted to rally in the second half, recording 18 shots throughout the match. Despite the offensive pressure, they managed only three shots on target and were unable to break through the New Mexico defense. Quiah added a final goal in the 71st minute to seal the 4-0 result.
While the scoreline suggests a lopsided affair, the Switchbacks maintained significant possession and attacking intent. Christian Herrera recorded four saves during his time in goal, and Matt Mahoney anchored the backline with a 95% passing accuracy, as noted in the club’s official recap.
Professional soccer leagues across Europe continue their respective schedules. While the USL Championship season concludes for Colorado Springs, other global fixtures continue. As reported by Live Soccer TV, clubs in the English Premier League, La Liga, and Serie A were actively competing throughout this weekend, highlighting the global intensity of the sport during this November window.
For the Switchbacks, the focus now shifts to the off-season. The club has advised fans to monitor their official social media channels and website for future updates regarding roster changes and preparations for the 2027 season.
