Punjab Launches Free Livestock Scheme to Empower Rural Women in 13 Districts

Directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the initiative aims to boost household incomes and promote financial independence for eligible widowed or divorced women aged 55 and under.

Eligibility Criteria and Verification

Access to the program is strictly regulated to ensure resources reach the intended beneficiaries. To prevent misuse, the Punjab Social Protection Authority is tasked with verifying the marital status of every applicant before approval is granted.

Furthermore, the government has implemented an exclusionary rule for those who have already benefited from state support. Women who have received livestock through any other government scheme within the past five years are ineligible to apply for this new initiative. This policy is designed to distribute resources more broadly across the province’s rural demographic.

The program is initially operational in 13 specific districts.

To assist applicants with the registration process, the government has established dedicated support infrastructure. Chief Minister Facilitation Desks have been set up at local veterinary hospitals and animal health centers in the participating districts. In addition to these physical locations, applicants have the option to submit their information through an official online portal.
