Madeline Barron Leads Seven Individual Wins for Saint Joseph’s College in Regis Meet
Freshman Madeline Barron secured three individual victories on Friday evening as Saint Joseph’s College of Maine faced Regis College in a dual swimming and diving meet. While the Monks’ individual performances showed significant strength, the overall team results saw Saint Joseph’s falling to Regis in both the women’s and men’s competitions, gomonks.com reported.
The women’s meet concluded with a score of 129-92 in favor of Regis, but the Monks demonstrated high-level speed in specific events. Barron’s performance anchored the team’s highlights, as she swept her three individual events with times of 2:21.44 in the 200-yard freestyle, 28.23 in the 50-yard freestyle, and 2:56.03 in the 200-yard breaststroke. This individual success contributed to a dominant showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the Saint Joseph’s quartet of Barron, Angelina Spino, Morgan Farley, and Bri Letourneau finished more than 19 seconds ahead of the Regis team with a time of 4:29.47.
Individual Standouts and Relay Success
Beyond Barron’s triple victory, several other Monks secured top placements in the women’s division. Sophomore Morgan Farley, representing Windham, Maine, took first place in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.47) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:25.95), while also earning a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 13:16.34. Senior Bri Letourneau from Lewiston, Maine, claimed the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle (1:05.12) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:49.16), and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly.

The depth of the women’s roster was further evidenced by freshman Angelina Spino, who finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:57.46) and secured third-place finishes in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke.

The men’s competition saw a different statistical trend, with Regis winning the meet 134-12. Despite the lopsided score, freshman Michael Nielson from Standish, Maine, provided the entirety of the Monks’ points for the evening. Nielson earned three runner-up finishes, placing second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.22), the 50-yard freestyle (25.32), and the 500-yard freestyle (6:02.98). His performance in the 50-yard freestyle was particularly close, finishing just 0.45 seconds behind the event winner.
