Tanner Hesterberg wins Kentucky House District 95 seat
Tanner Hesterberg, a former journalist and local attorney, won the election for Kentucky’s 95th House District on Tuesday, securing a seat in the state legislature, WYMT reported.
Hesterberg defeated opponent Johnny Ray Turner by a margin of nearly 2,000 votes. The district encompasses Floyd County and a portion of Pike County, a region where the political landscape is shifting as leadership transitions. With this victory, Hesterberg succeeds Ashley Tackett Laferty, who had previously served as the only Democrat representing the region in the Kentucky House of Representatives.
The win was celebrated Tuesday night at the Mountain Arts Center in Prestonsburg, where Hesterberg and his wife, Abi, met with supporters to mark the conclusion of the campaign.
Promises of hard work for Eastern Kentucky
In his remarks to the crowd, Hesterberg addressed the specific economic and social pressures facing the district. He characterized the current state of the region as being at a critical juncture.

“No one will work harder than me, and I promise I won’t let you down,” Hesterberg said. “Our district faces some enormous challenges. We’re at a crossroads, but together I believe we can work together and create a brighter future for eastern Kentucky.”
Hesterberg noted that the decision to enter the race was driven primarily by the support he received from the local community. He expressed gratitude to the voters who backed his candidacy throughout the election cycle.
The transition in the 95th District marks a change in the partisan makeup of the regional representation in Frankfort. As Laferty moves out of the seat, Hesterberg’s arrival brings a new perspective from a background in both law and journalism to the legislative body.
