The Treasure Valley DUI Task Force is launching a three-day enforcement operation starting Thursday evening to remove impaired drivers from the road during the Halloween weekend. According to a news release from the Idaho State Police, the operation coincides with the two-year anniversary of the task force’s creation, a collaborative effort designed to curb a spike in impaired driving crashes across the region.
This isn’t just a seasonal checkpoint. It is the culmination of a strategic shift in how eight different law enforcement agencies in the Treasure Valley pool their personnel and resources. By coordinating their efforts, these agencies aim to prevent the kind of serious injuries and fatalities that prompted the group’s formation in October 2024.
The Numbers Behind the Enforcement
The task force has maintained a remarkably consistent arrest rate over its first two years of operation. In its inaugural year, the group conducted 10 enforcement operations resulting in 325 DUI arrests. The data for 2026 shows a nearly identical volume of arrests, with 326 individuals picked up across nine operations so far this year.

Law Enforcement Provides Presentations on Impaired Driving Risks
Law enforcement isn’t relying solely on arrests to change driver behavior.
The group provides presentations to community organizations, schools and businesses regarding the risks of driving impaired. These sessions involve discussions on how alcohol impacts judgment, coordination and safe driving, and may include the use of impairment goggles for demonstrations. Those seeking a presentation can contact Sgt. Brandon Rowley via email at [email protected].
The Human Stakes of Halloween Weekend
Why the aggressive focus on this specific weekend? The task force’s message is blunt: plan for a sober ride, refuse to ride with someone who has been drinking, and speak up when you see someone preparing to drive impaired.
District 3 Office Manages Operation and Media Coordination
The operation is managed through the District 3 Southwestern Idaho office located at 700 S. Stratford Dr. in Meridian, serving Washington, Valley, Payette, Owyhee, Gem, Elmore, Canyon, Boise, Adams and Ada counties. Media representatives who wish to ride along with the task force or attend the briefing may contact Sophia Miraglio, a public information officer, at 208-989-0837.

The operation begins tomorrow evening.
