Four standout high school athletes are vying for the title of Nevada Preps girls Athlete of the Week for the period of Oct. 19-24, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The nominees represent a cross-section of dominance in volleyball, cross country, soccer, and tennis, with voting remaining open until noon on Thursday before results are released Friday.
Elite performances across four sports
For the Gaels of Bishop Gorman, senior Aliana Breitling has become a focal point of the offense. In a recent five-set battle against Foothill on Tuesday, the outside hitter recorded 13 kills, pushing her season total to 276 kills, the highest on her team.
On the trails, Faith Lutheran senior Scarlett Cotrone delivered a commanding performance at the Faith Lutheran Harvest Fest Invitational. Cotrone clocked a time of 17 minutes and 50 seconds in the 5-kilometer race on Saturday, beating the rest of the field by more than a full minute. Her individual victory was the catalyst for the Crusaders securing the overall team title.
In the soccer playoffs, Palo Verde senior goalkeeper Jovie Wikler helped lead the Panthers to an opening-round victory over Spring Valley. Wikler recorded two saves on Saturday to secure the win, adding to a season resume that already includes 11 shutouts and 36 total saves.
A standout individual achievement of the week comes from Doral Academy sophomore Bella Wolfe. On Friday, Wolfe captured the 4A state singles title in tennis by defeating 2025 champion Somi Song of The Meadows with a score of 7-5, 6-1. The victory capped an undefeated season for the sophomore.
