Odenton MARC Station Breaks Ground on $56M Commuter Garage

Governor Wes Moore, County Executive Steuart Pittman, and regional transit leaders broke ground on October 28, 2026, for the Odenton MARC Station Commuter Garage. The $56 million Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) project is designed to connect high-frequency public transit with high-density housing.

The garage serves as the first physical phase of a larger $200 million transformation. This County-led initiative is a public-private partnership that will convert four acres of underutilized surface parking into a mixed-use community hub. It represents a cross-jurisdictional partnership with the State of Maryland and is the initial step toward the state’s delivery of the broader transit-oriented development. Funding for the project is provided by private capital investment, state affordable housing tax credits, and federal transit-oriented development grants.

Project Scope and Timeline

Construction for Phase 1 will prioritize utility infrastructure updates, foundation excavation, and the building of lower-level parking structures. The project is targeted for completion in autumn 2028.

To accommodate commuters during the process, initial efforts will involve relocating temporary ADA parking. Officials stated that bus and metro rail services will maintain normal schedules, and designated temporary pedestrian paths will be used to guide riders around the construction area.

Economic and Regional Impact

The Odenton MARC station is currently the third-busiest in the state. According to projections from MDOT and the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), the full redevelopment of three existing surface lots along the rail corridor is expected to generate more than $270 million in new tax revenue for Anne Arundel County and the state over the following 30 years.

DPW Director Karen Henry noted that the project is a result of aligning long-term goals with state and local partners to create a “more connected, accessible, and sustainable regional transit network for everyone.” Henry added, “Transformative public works projects are built on strong partnerships.”

Gov. Moore said his administration is “dedicated to building transit accessible communities for Marylanders to enjoy for generations to come.”
