Varsity 845 Boys Soccer Polls Open for Oct. 19-25 Postseason Push
The postseason race is officially on across the Hudson Valley, and local high school soccer stars are stepping into the spotlight. RecordOnline.com reported that the Varsity 845 boys soccer player of the week polls for October 19 through October 25 are officially live, capturing a pivotal stretch of elimination matches, league titles, and high-stakes rivalries across Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan counties.
With postseason play getting underway, the stakes have risen for local squads. Coaches across the region have submitted their game reports and nominated standout athletes, creating a diverse ballot featuring seasoned goalscorers and overworked goalkeepers who kept their teams alive under heavy offensive pressure. To ensure fairness during the regular season stretch, winners from the previous two weeks—including large-school standouts Liam McGee of Monroe-Woodbury and Tony Grigalunas of Warwick, alongside small-school victors Austin Harty of S.S. Seward and Remy Mead of Rondout Valley—are ineligible for current voting.
The Large-School Slate: Title-ClinCHERS and Defensive Battles
The large-school ballot is packed with players who delivered defining moments when their programs needed them most. Ian Enamorado of Newburgh stamped his name on the regular season by scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Monroe-Woodbury on October 20, a win that locked up the OCIAA Division I title for the Goldbacks. Teammate Ryan Salony backed that effort between the posts, posting 11 saves to preserve the shutout.

Defensive heroics defined several other large-school campaigns during the week. Minisink Valley’s Joseph Higby turned away 16 shots in a tough 5-0 loss to Warwick on October 20, while Pine Bush goalkeeper Matt Webster racked up 15 stops against Washingtonville. On the offensive side, Washingtonville’s Joziah Lazo and Dylan Murray each found the back of the net twice in a 5-1 win over Pine Bush on October 19. Warwick’s Isaiah Gonzalez and Nicholas Ryan Jr. both put together multi-point performances in a 4-1 win over Dover and added goals in the shutout against Minisink Valley.
Small-School Showdowns and Quarterfinal Heroics
Down in the small-school division, the playoff pressure produced standout individual efforts across sectional quarterfinals and league games. Burke Catholic’s Josias Labuda delivered one of the most explosive offensive games of the week, netting four goals in a 7-1 rout of Chapel Field on October 20. Meanwhile, S.S. Seward’s Grey Whitmore continued a strong run by scoring twice in a 2-0 blanking of Fallsburg and adding another goal in a 3-2 quarterfinal victory over Webutuck on October 24.
Goalkeepers also faced relentless pressure as tournament brackets narrowed. Fallsburg’s Josue Mora logged 13 stops against Washingtonville and another six saves in a 5-0 quarterfinal exit against Rhinebeck. Sullivan West’s Aden Speer recorded 12 saves against Port Jervis, and Tri-Valley’s David Allen registered nine stops against Chapel Field.
Voting remains open until Sunday, November 1, at 11 p.m. Fans can cast ballots as often as they like at RecordOnline.com/sports/high-school. Final winners will be announced weekly on the @Varsity845 account on X, formerly known as Twitter.
